Mail & C Compiler Issues in UnMenu

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

I hope you can help me.  I am trying to install the email package but with no success.  My package manager seems to be out of date but I cant get it to update.

I would really appreciate your help.

I am running Version 4.7 of UnRaid and unMenu Version 1.5.

I have pasted the text from the package manager below and attached my sys log:

Description: This package installs both mailx and ssmtp, a subset of "sendmail" needed to send alerts from the unRAID server

To test the basic configuration of ssmtp, type the following command:

echo -e "Subject: a test\n\nThis is the email body." | ssmtp -d root

Memory Usage: Light (10K to 500K)

Dependencies: Mail depends on ssmtp, a "sendmail" subset designed for outgoing mail only. "ssmtp" is part of this package.

unfortunately, ssmtp is only available as source code. Therefore, you will need to install the compiler and development tools

before you can install this package.

ssmtp depends on open-ssl to be able to securely communicate to mail servers on TLS connections.

syslog-2012-08-04.txt

I suspect you do not have any DNS server defined, since all the downloaded files do not contain the correct checksum.  They probably contain text that says the URL cannot be found.

What happens when you type:

net lookup google.com

what happens when you type:

ping -c 5 google.com

You must have both a DNS nameserver defined and a gateway  defined.  You apparently have the gateway defined as 192.168.1.254.  That is unusual, as most routers would set themselves as 192.168.1.1

That might be the issue if incorrectly set, as it would be trying to get to the web through an non-exitstant gateway.

In any case, in the settings of unRAID, you can usually set both the DNS server and the gateway to the IP address of your router.

Joe L.

You apparently have the gateway defined as 192.168.1.254.

AT&T DSL routers use that address by default.

Is that the address of their router?  If so, fine, otherwise, not.

Do the downloaded files contain text describing the error?  See if you can open one with "mc" and learn the error.

If it appears they are the size expected, then something is causing the MD5 checksum to fail.  (it is possible they changed on the server)

Thanks for the reply Joe,

Can you clarify what you want me to do and how to do it please.

I have to admit I am fairly new to Linux

Regards,

John
