September 1, 201213 yr I am looking for help with a budget build. I have looked at the sticky regarding recommended builds, and have found other guides, but they seem to be outdated. By outdated, I mean that they link to discontinued items. I was wondering if someone could help me get an up to date parts list, that cannot only run Unraid, but can also run Sickbeard and Sabnzbd from the cache drive smoothly. The server will be a destination for networked computer backups, but will mostly be a media streamer. Is this possible with my budget?? Thanks! What is your budget? $300-$400 Without Drives How many drives do you want your server to be able to support and how much capacity do you need? Six 2TB drives, one of which will be a cache drive. Is expandability important to you? Six drives will be sufficient for quite some time. Are you interested in running any unRAID Add Ons? I want to run Sickbeard and Sabnzbd. I would also like to run an NFS server in which to share files to a WD Live media from the array. Do you want to run green/low power drives or faster 7200 rpm drives? Not sure. If I had to guess, I will run 7200's as I wish to stream 1080p files over a wired gigabit network. Do you have any spare parts laying around that you would like to apply towards your build? No.
September 1, 201213 yr ...look here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11585.0 This or the next upper model N40L is the best server-class box for a low budget. For your add-ons, beef it up to 4GB RAM if not already shipped. Or see Raj's list of prototype builds, here: http://www.greenleaf-technology.com/blogs/prototypes/index.php
September 2, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the reply! I like the HP Microservers, though they seem to be hard to acquire from reputable online sellers. One model is discontinued on Newegg, and the other is out of stock, though I added myself to the auto notify list. Edit: Silly me, HP.com sells these themselves! The prototype builds also link to discontinued parts, though I think I can find suitable substitutions. Thanks!
