Temp Question

Featured Replies

I have 2 ea. WD20EARS in my server.  One of them has recently started returning a 34 degree temp while the other stays around 29 under load.

I know 34 isn't in any danger zone, but it is warm for a green drive as my case cools very well.  I have all the fans running on the lowest speed and only my 7200 RPM Hitachi's ever reached 34 and that was in a parity check.  That specific drive always stayed in the upper 20's like the other.  Until recently I don't think it ever hit 30.

What would cause a drive to start running hotter with no changes inside the case or in its position in the room?  Can this be the sign of anything mechanically bad in the near future?  short smart test checks out fine.

The stock drive cages have filter screens on the front.  They look clean but I will pull that one tomorrow and blow it out just to be sure.

Hardware list in my signature is current.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Any help with this?

If the drive passes a SMART test I wouldn't worry. 34 degrees is perfectly fine for that drive.
