Server reboot when viewing UnRAID webpage

Featured Replies

In this http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1383.0 thread it was mentioned that this issue was fixed in 4.3 but it is not.  At least in my case.

Every time I go to //tower from IE7 I get a reboot which starts a parity check because of the spontaneous reboot.  I upgraded from 4.2.4 to 4.3.2 because I believed this was fixed.  I was satisfied with 4.2.4 except for the fact of getting spontaneous shutdowns when I went to my //tower bookmark to view the status.  It didn't happen every time but seemed to occur at least one extra time after I initiated a shutdown through the webpage.

But now on 4.3.2 I get a reboot every single time I view the webpage, so it seems to be worse for me.  If a parity check is in progress it doesn't seem to reboot - so maybe the code to prevent this when data is being written is working correctly.  The problem I have now is the 99% of the time that data is not being written whenever I go to check the status it will reboot the server.  Also I have a concern about this spontaneous reboot scenario if one of my drives were to fail - I don't think this would be a good thing.

Right now I'm probably going to be reverting to 4.2.4 but I wanted to see if there is something I'm missing.  I haven't seen a thread like this in the 4.3 section and I can't believe I'm the only person with this problem - but perhaps so.  Is anyone else having spontaneous reboots or shutdowns when going to the //tower webpage with 4.3.2?

Right-click the favorite and select properties - is the URL field correct?  It should just say "http://tower/main.htm" or "http://tower".

If it does appear correct, perhaps try this: just delete the contents of the URL field and manually retype it and click Ok.  Another idea is to delete the favorite and create a new one.

Another idea is to go to Tools/Internet Options/General/Browsing history and click Delete, then Delete All.

I think this problem is that somehow IE is caching the "shutdown URL" from some time in the past where you did a shutdown, and is sending that when you click the Favorite.  I don't believe this problem has been reported with any other browser besides IE.

Thanks for the quick reply.  The link shows http://tower/main.htm  - I did check that.  Also I did clear the IE7 cache and history and it still happened.  When I typed //tower it did not reboot but it was already in the process of a parity check.  I'll see if it works ok when nothing is writing to the drives.

I'll play around some more tonight - it makes me feel better that no one else is seeing this.  And I can use Firefox just to check UnRAID - that's fine if it is just IE.

Update - last night when I got home I cleared my IE7 cache/history and deleted the pre-existing bookmark to //tower then I typed //tower into the url window and it worked as normal - no reboots.  I saved that new bookmark and it seems to be doing fine.  For a second opinion I went into Firefox and typed //tower and it worked fine as well.  I made a shortcut on my desktop to open //tower with the FF browser and I tried it about 20 times last night over the course of the night - no reboots.  So it looks like everything is fine now.  Something must've been stuck in the browser.  Somehow it remembered the very first time I rebooted when I upgraded from 4.2.4 to 4.3.2 and never got out of that mode.

If anyone else sees this strangeness you should clear your browser cache/history and if that doesn't work then delete your bookmark and re-save it.  If that fails then you might want to try a different browser (although both IE7 and FF are working fine for me now).  So now I'm happy that everything is working well on 4.3.2!

Thanks - sorry for the false alarm.  It really was rebooting every time - I swear.  ;-)
