tucansam
Just popped a WD30EZRX in my server as its first disk. Installed unmenu and screen. The preclear wiki talks about advanced format drives with 4k alignment... Do I need to do anything to this disk with regards to this option? Can I just preclear and then format? Or install jumpers? Do I need to run wdidle3 on this drive to adjust head parking? I plugged it into my Win7 machine initially (via usb...) and ran WD's diag software. My first SMART test aborted with "too many bad sectors" which I hope is a problem with the fact that it was connected via USB. I'm hoping preclear will make or break the drive. Link to comment
tucansam
I ran idle3 (linux) and set the timer to 300s. I am preclearing now with the -A option. Hope I'm doing this right. Link to comment
tucansam
My WD is preclearing at 149MB/s @ 31C. I have my cache drive, an older 250GB Seagate Pipeline, preclearing as well just to test it -- 67.6MB/s @ 37C. May have to upgrade the cache drive to something faster. Link to comment
