paqmaster
Does UnRaid allow the selection of the parity drive of my choosing or does it only use the first drive on the first IDE channel on the MB? Quote Link to comment
sirquack
The Parity drive will always be the top bay in the storage works and it must be the same or larger in size of the larges data drive. Quote Link to comment
paqmaster
Thanks but I'm building my own UnRAID server so "top bay" doesn't mean anything to me. So is the "top bay" drive 1 of the onboard IDE controller, channel 1? If so, can I change that to say drive 1 of the onboard SATA controller channel 1 in my case? I want UnRAID OS to use the hard drive I specify as parity. Is that possible? Quote Link to comment
smeehrrr
Master of the primary IDE channel. I think there's a way you can change that by tweaking some config file on the flash, but I don't know the details. Quote Link to comment
erikatcuse
Yes you can change the physical channel of the drive for parity. There is a config file with parameters in it that has the major and minor number for the device location. However it is not recommended to switch these around (this is what the paper says that came with my usb drive). It would probally just be easier to leave the parity as Master IDE 1 though.
