Trying to consolidate 3 separate computers into my unRAID box. Can someone help?

Recommended Posts

Hi, and thank you for reading.

First thing, I know nothing about Linux...

I current have a computer set for JUST SABnzbd, CouchPotato, and SICKBEARD.

I have another computer that runs Plex Media Server (and nothing else)

My unRAID box is massively powerful (quad core 16gb ram etc etc etc) and I would like to consolidate the other computers into my unRAID box.

I tried installing the Plex Server addon but it won't start..I dont know how to troubleshoot..or even how to install in a Linux environment.

would someone be willing to walk me through, (A-Z) installing Plex, Sab, Sickbeard and CouchPotato onto my unRAID box?

As a thank you, I will create a username and password for you, so you can watch my library via Plex. (I have 18 terrabytes..so you'll be busy :)

Please email me, or reply here (bbelikove at gmail d.o.t. com.) if you would be willing to help.

I have Plex server showing in my unRAID settings, but it never starts.  I upgraded unRAID TO 5.0 RC8a and tried to follow various instructions..but i can't figure it out.

Even getting just Plex onto unRAID would free up on computer and would help me greatly...thank you so much!

Instruction on hot to install Influencer Plugins. Links to  download here as well.

https://github.com/Influencer/UNplugged

That should get you on your way. Influencers Plug-ins work great for me.

PMS is not included in his plugings, but this will get you started.

This seem to be a popular and easy way to install.

Sabnzbd

Sickbeard

Couchpotato Version 2 (Server)

Darkstat

Headphones

Mylar

Maraschino

You can post there, if you have any problems.

You may also want to install, SimpleFeatures Plugins and UnMenu. Search the forum and read, then read some more.

BTW, if you have the Pex icon on you settings page. and it seems to be running.

Did you try to go to the manage page? http://tower:32400/manage/'>http://tower:32400/manage/

This may help you with PMS> http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/42513-0963-for-unraid/

I have a new server that I am not really using yet, just getting to know unraid. I installed using the above posted method with no problem.

Using the above mentioned method. This is what I did.

1. Created a new folder on the flash drive at root level named..

extra

2. Download file from the Plex site http://www.plexapp.com/linux/linux-pms-download.php and  copied the downloaded file into that folder.

3. Opened a windows CMD window and typed

telnet tower...login root no pass

4. copy and pasted install command into console.

installpkg /boot/extra/PlexMediaServer-*-unRAID.txz

Executed command.

5. Open browser and configured Plex.

6. Browsed to http://tower:32400/manage and added media.

7.Opened Pex on HTPC grabbed remote and watched Brickleberry.

Takes longer to type than to do. There are other ways to get PMS installed.

I test it about a year ago, with a package install. I think you need to stop plex before

stopping the array. The one I test before had that option in the GUI. Im sill a noob, so if that is a

better method or version, please post.

couple things.

thank you so much for the reply.  I genuinely appreciate it.

I have unmenu installed.  I used it to install some of the plugins (sickbeard, etc) , but i can't seem to access them..i just dont know what to do.

secondly, I have plex installed, but it's not running.  it says "stopped" and when i click start, it never does and forever says stopped.

I know there's something simple to fix it, but i just dont know..

I suggest you try using Influncers plugin for Sab, Sickbeard. The links were included in my first post.

Get one thing going at a time. I might be a good idea to back up your flash drive  and boot your server with just the basic Unraid, then install one addon at a time. There are many ways to install addons, your task now is to find one that works for you.

I have outlined the steps to get PMS up and running, again, I suggest you start over. Follow the instruction in my first post and it will work. If there is a step you dont understand, ask a question. There are many people that will try and help you.

Thank you again for answering.

I didnt explain myself properly.  Let me start over.

I followed your post ver batim. I started over completely and followed your post and was again stuck at the PMS remaining in "stopped" status.

I followed your link and found someone who suggested adding "runas=root" to the settings.ini, which I did, but again, it failed.

after further review, maybe I did not completely uninstall plex before starting over.  I deleted the file out of "/extra" and rebooted, but i can't seem to find specifically how to install and start over.

i'm sorry for my ignorance. I really am trying to do this without begging for help.  I'm a computer tech, but never put any effort into the *nix worlds...

Just to reiterate, when i install Plex and get to step 4, where I configure it via the webgui, I goto http://tower and click on "settings"  then under "network services" there's "Plex Media Server"

when I click on that, there's 2 text boxes to set library directory and temp directory.

I set both of those to /mnt/user/plex/Library and /mnt/cache/cachetmp/plextmp and the directories are created on my cache drive, but no matter what, on that same settings page it stays "status: STOPPED"  no matter if i reboot, stop/start the array, change the settings.ini to "runas=root" or whatever else.  It never changes from "status:stopped" and i cannot goto "http://tower:32400/mange" to mange the plex server, because it's not started in unRAID.

EDIT:  HOLY CRAP i FINALLY GOT IT TO SAY "RUNNING"  I found a hidden post deep in another thread that said the following:

#export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8"

#export LANG="en_US.UTF-8"

that got it running. now i'm trying to get further..so i'll keep you posted...thank you!

Good to see you got it running. what works for me when installing a new package/plugin, is to not set the data directories until I verify that its installing correctly and running. I will run in memory and all setting will be gone upon reboot. Then if its stops working after I make changes, it makes it easier to troubleshoot.

Aint Linux fun. :-*

You have one hellova collection. I went through you movies till my thumb got tired. >:(

I dont have a plex pass. I may get one now. I tried setting it up a while back, when it was free, but

had trouble with port forwarding. It worked with DMZ, but I cant run like that.

Had a problem with 1080 content, buffering. 720 was fine. I only have about 450 movies. 18TB is a buttload.  I hope you get all you apps running on one box. Thank you for the invite.
