[Request] Emit (AirVideo for all platforms)

Featured Replies

I installed the plugin last night -- I tested it on both the webapp and on my Android Galaxy S2 and in both cases it found my server without any problems, but no matter what settings I apply, nothing plays in either.  I restarted unraid and now I can't even connect to the Emit server.

I wasn't able to track down the location of the emit logfile either, so I'm not sure what to debug at the moment.  Where should that logfile be placed?

Troy

Hmm. I see..

It doesn't actually create any log files at the moment.

If it found the server but you werent able to play anything, i think there must've been something wrong with ffmpeg.

Are you using any unraid plugins that uses ffmpeg?

Yeah -- I'm using Subsonic.

In fact, I just tested things out in Subsonic and it appears that video streaming to my Android is no longer working after installing Emit (or more likely, installing the packages that Emit depends on).  I'm guessing there is some package mismatches going between the two (and I know that can be a headache to unravel). That's too bad as I was curious if Emit worked better for video streaming than Subsonic does.

I'm going to play around with installing only one or the other plugin, do some restarts, and see if it makes any difference in how things work.

Looks like the reason I couldn't connect to the emit server the was due to the pin number changing after a restart.  Not sure if this is normal or not (or if I did something that caused this).  After updating the pin number in the Android app I was able to connect to the server again, though still no luck in getting anything to play.

Yea it's actually normal.

It seems like whenever emit gets re-run, it gets a new pin number. Kind of annoying but that's the only way.

But regarding to you not being able to play anything. Are you using any plugin that uses ffmpeg?

Can you see if there is 'ffmpeg' in /usr/local/bin/ ?

Also, try executing 'ffmpeg' in the command line. Does it give you the information on the ffmpeg that's installed? If it does, what verrsion? If it doesn't, any error msg?

ffmpeg is in /usr/local/bin

I installed the packages in /boot/packages/ffmpeg-0.10.2-pkgs-v2 (is that from your plugin, I haven't looked yet).

Then, after running ffmpeg I get:

Hey botez,

First of all, thank you for doing all these tests. I really appreciate it.

Now, I haven't "officially" released it yet since I am testing, but here is the new version of Subsonic Plugin:

https://unraid-subsonic-plugin.googlecode.com/files/subsonic-4.7-4.2jj.plg

I edited the plug in to use the same ffmpeg package as the ones i put for Emit.

so replace the old subsonic file with this new one, reboot, then try Emit again.

That definitely fixes the ffmpeg issues I was having in general.  When I get home tonight I will check to see if it fixes the Emit issues as well.

The updated plugin for Subsonic does make Emit work for me now.  However, after all that, I find the quality of it to be pretty poor in comparison with Subsonic.  Still, it's nice to know I can have both side-by-side for future uses.

Thanks for all the help jangjong!

No problem! Glad that was the problem.

May i ask which device you tested this on? Android or Apple?

Also, if you were using android, i'm guessing you played the video with flash player?

Yeah, I have a Android Galaxy S2.  It's running Jelly Bean with Flash on it.
