GortWillSaveUs
I'm running unRaid 4.7 I just updated my Parity drive to a 2TB from a 1TB. All went well. I also added that 1TB back in, as the 5th drive. Again, all went well. This morning,..I had a spare 120GB drive and added it a my Cache drive. I booted it up,..and added the cache drive. I then told it to format that unformatted drive. Interestingly,....I went back to check on the server and hour later I found the server powered off. I found this strange,..and powered it back on. I saw that the Cache drive was now visible (the format completed) and the array was mounted. A parity check was in process,....so I let it finish. However,..about 15 minutes in,..I heard the server shutdown. Thinking it had soemthing to do with new cache drive,..I removed it. Powered server back up,..and again Parity Check in progress. 15 minutes later,..shutdown happened again. This was working fine,..but I hadn't done a Parity Check in a while. It seems as though, the Parity Check is casuing this problem (well,...I'm sure it's something else,..but what?) I haven't yet tried powering back on,..and stopping the Parity Check to see how long the server will stay up. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
RokleM
Overloading your powersupply with the additional drive? Quote Link to comment
GortWillSaveUs
Overloading your powersupply with the additional drive? I was thinking the same thing,..but here's my power supply: Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply 520W should handle 6 SATA drives,...no? GortWillSaveUs
Trying something..... I had a PCI (don't ask) SATA card that was in my old server. I popped in here "just because". Don't need it since my MB has 6 SATA, and I have a PCI-E 2-Port SATA card. Well, I removed it, and powered up. It's running the Parity Check right now. Fingers Crossed! Quote Link to comment
GortWillSaveUs
Dang it! That didn't work. It shut down about 15 minutes into the Parity check. Next I'll try powering on,..but cancelling the Parity Check. Quote Link to comment
GortWillSaveUs
Crap,..even worse! I cancelled the Parity Check,..and after 2 minutes it powered off. Help :'( Quote Link to comment
bcbgboy13
Post you complete hardware configuration. If not PSU related - could be thermal shutdown Quote Link to comment
GortWillSaveUs
Looks like it was a Thermal Shutdown. I had just recabled everything today,..and zip tied everything neatly,.......EXCEPT one thin wire I overlooked. It was in the CPU fan!!! Needless to say I zip tied 3 more things just in case. Just powered it on and should know within 15 minutes if all is good! Quote Link to comment
GortWillSaveUs
Well,...30 minutes in and it looks like this issue is solved. Although I caused this issue,..I ddin't panic,..I knew it had to be something that could be resolved quickly. Now I just have to wait for the Parity Check to complete later tonight.
