Can't connect to server after switching to U-Verse router.

Featured Replies

Thanks and apologies in advance for not being as technically informative as you guys would probably prefer.

For the past year or so I've been running a 4.7Pro-based server without a hitch using a Linksys E4200, which managed all of the networking. This week AT&T cancelled their basic DSL service in my area and gave me a 2Wire U-Verse all-in-one RG to use instead. So now I have the 2Wire unit running the network through a gigabit switch.

At first the server connected and seemed to be working fine; I actually uploaded ~50GB and streamed a movie through my htpc. I noticed it was running a little slow, however, so I rebooted it again, and it hasn't been able to reconnect to the network since. The RG shows it as being unconnected, and I can't access it either through explorer or the browser GUI. And in a case of extreme coincidence(?) I can't even connect to the Lime Tech website. Every one of dozens of other sites I've tried work fine, but for some reason a tracert shows this one timing out after hitting the first AT&T address. The only way I was even able to get to the forum was by going through a proxy.

I have tried configuring a static IP in the RG and the flash config file, but that didn't help.

My one clue at this point is that after booting (which appears to proceed normally), once the server hits the login promt the internal speaker starts going off sporadically in alternating high and low tones which continues until I shut it off.

I've never had to troubleshoot a router issue like this or delve into the unRaid configs or command prompt before, and I don't know how to even begin troubleshooting. Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

When I switched from Cablevision to UVerse I just kept my local network on my own router and just used the UVerse router for WAN to my router. This keeps more things under my control. Also, my router (WNDR3700) is gigabit LAN, dual-band 300mbps WLAN, with guest network on both bands so it is better than the UVerse router anyway. For a while I let the UVerse router provide an additional guest wireless but decided not to clutter up the airwaves and just disabled it. The one drawback to this is that I have to do my Port Forwarding on both routers.

It sounds more like you have more than one device with the same IP address on your LAN and they are colliding.

Which device is acting as the DHCP server? (if any?)

Are you reserving the addresses you fix-assign? (in the DHCP server)  When you re-wired, did you also change the DNS servers and network gateways to those supplied by UVerse?

Do you have the UVerse modem set up as a router?  (It should be)

I too have UVerse service, for TV, Phone, and backup internet.    What equipment did they supply you with?

Thanks for the response, guys. Between a bad cold and a crazy work load, staying up all night trying to figure this out was the last straw to pushing me into total meltdown mode.

The only UVerse equipment I have right now is a 3600HGV 2Wire Gateway, which is running DHCP and wireless. The Cisco/Linksys router is not connected in any way. There doesn't appear to be a conflict with the IP address. Assigning the Tower an unused static IP address didn't affect the situation, with and without the IP address being specified in the network.cfg file.

I can't attach a syslog file right now since I'm stuck posting via my phone since the forum won't authenticate my proxy anymore. However it did show the following set of notifications which was repeated ad infinitum and I believe corresponds to the beeping I noted in the OP:

Nov 10 08:13:37 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1535]: Link beat lost.

Nov 10 08:13:39 Tower kernel: ATL1E 0000:02:00.0: ATL1E: eth0 NIC Link is Up<1000 Mbps Full Duplex>

Nov 10 08:13:40 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1535]: Link beat detected.

Nov 10 08:13:51 Tower kernel: ATL1E 0000:02:00.0: ATL1E: eth0 NIC Link is Down

I also ran the ">ifconfig eth0" command as per the troubleshooting guide and posted an image of the result to <imgur.com/YTDJ3> (caps matter). Something is clearly not working right.

I've triple and quadruple checked the wiring, and everything is secure where it should be.

I'll try putting things back onto the Cisco/Linksys to see if that fixes things, but my inital attempts at getting it to talk with the 2Wire gateway were not going by the book, which is why I took it offline in the first place. I still think there has to be a way to get the Tower to talk with the 2Wire, though.

Thanks again for the assistance, guys.
