Kandinsky
Dear Experts, I have been getting quite frequent red balls on drives in my array which I wondered was down to the cables or something else? Helmonder
You should order a replacement, preclear it and keep it ready to use.. The first drive shows some errors but nothing really spectacular, the Multi Zone Error Rate of the second drive however is pretty high... Now apparently the drive is still able to get it to work but in my opinion that will be a matter of time.. You should imagine that drives are build to continously partly fail.. They have systems and spare sectors built in to replace failing parts. The red balls themself should also tell you something. Also make sure you double check cabling and replace possible failure candidates there, but in any case, keep a spair drive ready (a good idea in any case) Quote Link to comment
Kandinsky
Thanks for the analysis. Should I be concerned about the UDMA_CRC_Error_Count as it also looks high? Quote Link to comment
Helmonder
Trouble with these figures is that the absolute number is not very valuable, what you should look at is the trend on the numbers, if it increases then something is wrong, if it stays stable then it might have been a loose cable at some point..
