November 29, 201213 yr The basic scenario is as a follows, the UPS software after the timeout has expired instructs the ESXi server to do a "host shutdown", and within "Virtual Machine Startup/Shutdown" I instruct the unRAID vm to do a "guest shutdown". A "host shutdown" sends a shutdown request to the unRAID vm which based on the shutdown script (installed by vmtools) performs a shutdown, however, the unRAID vm seems to stop at this point but dosen't really "Power off". http://i.imgur.com/DoZhY.png And on next reboot, a parity check is always performed, despite the array being stopped. (I think it's properly stopped from above). However, if I shutdown from the web interface, no parity check. I'm just wondering if others are experiencing the same and solutions to not perform a parity check in this scenario. I also read the there's a bug in the RCs that affect whether a parity check is performed if you do not shutdown strictly from the web interface but rather console. Not sure if this is the case or not. However, what I don't understand is that the vmtools shutdown script, located in /etc/vmware-tools/scripts seems to call the interface's shutdown not console: #Use the Web-interface command to shutdown. wget --quiet http://localhost/update.htm?shutdown=apply -o /dev/null So, I'm not sure what's going on here, and whether there's something really preventing my unraid from cleanly shutting down.
November 29, 201213 yr The tools don't appear to work with ESXi 5.1, so if that's what you're running, that's the problem.
November 29, 201213 yr Author Correct, I'm using Zeron's vmtools. VMtools: open_vm_tools-2012.05.21.724730_unRaid5.0rc8-i686-3Zeron.tgz ESXi: 5.1 unRAID: v5rc8a
