just wondering about protecting files on the server from accidental deletion. would using windows explorer and setting the files propertise to read only do this? or is there a better way?

 

don't specificly want to stop writes to the disks, but to stop accidental deletion, unless i specificly want to

Put the data you want to protect in a user share that is read only. You can export the drives as hidden and still write to the share via the drive eg \\tower\disk1\Movies to access the Movies share on disk1.
