September 16, 200817 yr If streaming HD content från one disk I get major stuttering while spining up any disk in the array. Is this avoidable? Until now I only used my unraid server to host media to one HTPC...so I never seen this as a problem. But now I have invested in 2 more HTPCs around the house and this ruins the whole experience.
September 17, 200817 yr Can you clarify your situation a bit. Are you saying there is only stutter during the 6 to 8 seconds a drive is spinning up, or does the stutter continue while doing simultaneous HD playback? If it is just during the spin up of another drive, it is the first I have heard of. We'll need to hear if others have noticed that.
September 17, 200817 yr Author It's just during the spinup of another drive. Let's say I'm in the middle of watching a video from drive #1 in my living room. Then I will get stutter for about 10 seconds when someone starts a video from another drive (let's say drive #2) in the kitchen. Same thing if I'm listening to music (playing back a mp3 in one room). The spinup of another drive will cause dropouts for about 10 seconds. Does not matter how many drives already spinning. I also tested switching power supply (I use Corsair 620W but tested with an Antec 850) but no luck. I use the exact same config (except chassi and power supply) as in Toms MD-1500.
September 29, 200817 yr On rare occasions, when my Son is watching a movie on the XBox & I rip a movie to the unRAID box he will lose connection. The movie stutters & then stops & xbox goes to the main screen. It only happens maybe once every week or two. It only happens when I am writing to the server. Phil
