January 16, 201313 yr I was wondering if it's possible to built a system so that you can boot it with Windows from a separate HD and access the media on the Unraid drives and as needed boot Unraid to update the parity when files are added. I am trying to avoid building a unraid computer and a HTPC computer. Hoping I can have a 2 in 1 system.
January 16, 201313 yr No, you can not do this. I suggest you look at virtualization if you want 1 system running both or check out flexraid or snapraid.
January 16, 201313 yr personally i'd reccomend just buying a htpc. a 1080p htpc can run for £99 if u pick ur time wisely and will be very small form factor and portable.
January 17, 201313 yr There are several threads on running UnRAID in a virtual machine -- if you do that, you can easily do what you want. Just build a Windows box; install a hypervisor (e.g. VMWare Player, Virtual Box, etc.); and then create a virtual machine for UnRAID. I'd suggest assigning dedicated drives to the UnRAID virtual machine => and clearly the performance will be lower than a native system; but from what's been discussed in these forums, it's still good enough for streaming media.
