Featured Replies

This server has been running fine for a few weeks

Today I shut it down, upon reboot I get...

all drives are green, except parity, it is red

Configuration says it is valid

When I try yo manually start the array, it will not start

Attached is a log for examination

Please advise  ;D

Thanks for your help

Looks like I had a drive failure, replaced /dev/hdc and it appears to be working again

Does my log (above) confirm this?

I have not tested the pulled drive yet, doing parity check now

Looks like I switched to UnRaid just in time (Been using it less then a month)  :)  otherwise I would of lost data

UnRaid = My  Hero

Thanks Joe, that's what I get for rushing, to may hours on the computers today!

I attached the log to the first post

Thanks again

That is only an extract of the final page or two of the syslog, but it clearly shows hdc is currently having fatal problems, reporting a series of SectorIdNotFound errors in absolutely critical sectors of the first track.  I don't know what happened to this drive (serious power spike? something just short of a head crash!), but it is probably not even testable currently.  You cannot even write an MBR to it.  You should (hopefully) be able to get a SMART report from it's firmware, but from what I can see, if it is at all recoverable, you need the manufacturer's tool to low-level format the drive.  That is not the same as the standard formatting of a partition, and installation of a file system, but the low-level establishment of tracks and sectors.  If you can't obtain that tool, the drive is trash.  I'm curious if it is making any unusual noises.

Thanks Rob, that's what I thought

No, it was not making any unusual noises

I replaced the drive, and all is well again, I may play with the old drive some other day
