Parity Errors after unexpected power outage

Featured Replies

Apparently my UPS is not an IPS (Interruptible Power Supply)

While I was at work, the server lost power.  Upon powering it back on and running a parity check, I've encountered my first ever errors.  "2" of them, to be precise.

Jan 25 18:30:01 Tower kernel: md: parity incorrect: 95156152 (Errors)

Jan 25 18:30:01 Tower kernel: md: parity incorrect: 95156160 (Errors)

When I look at the main UnRaid screen (ver 4.7), where my 11 data and 1 parity drives are listed, there are no errors appearing beside any of them.

Would one just assume that the power outage just result in a few bad bits, that the parity check has corrected and then as a next step, run the parity check again?  Or would you suggest an alternate course of action?

Thanks for the advice!  As always, its extremely appreciated :)

It is entirely normal.

It is the reason unRAID performs a parity check upon power up after a power loss.

The process is routine, however the 2 parity errors is a first for me, thus my inquiry here.

I'll just consider the array fixed, after the parity check was completed and proceed with life  (well, I'll replace the UPS first with one that works)  :)

You might want to do a full test to make sure the new UPS works, and shuts down the array properly. I use a shop light as a load, and plug the UPS into a switchable outlet or power strip to simulate the outage. Leave the server plugged into a constant power source, and switch off the power to the UPS and watch the server to see if it responds correctly as the UPS runs out of battery.
