February 13, 201313 yr I know i have gone wrong... I was installing a new 3TB WD Red into my array. I had pre-cleared it. Before I put it in, this was the array: Parity disk = 3TB WD Red Disk X = 1 TB WD Black Disk Y - 2 TB WD Green. I plugged the new WD Red drive in. I took the array offline. Selected the 1 TB disk, tried to swap it to the 3TB. The message came back "Wrong". So, I rebooted. This time it let me select the new drive. But it seemed to suggest that it needed a re-format The parity read as needing to be rechecked. So, I did. I may have got the order of the above a little back-to-front. The current status is that I am now missing data. Being a novice, I can only guess... but since the new drive shows 3TB of Free space, instead of sucking up the data out of the parity...and the 2 TB is showing as only having 125 GB free...What I have done is effectively delete from the parity, whatever was on the 1TB drive. I had been intending to upgrade to the paid version. The question now is... if I upgrade... can I just plug in the old 1TB drive ? Is there anything I should do or not do, other than the cluster-buck I have already made of things... I am running v5 RC5. Thanks.
February 13, 201313 yr If I understand correctly it sounds like you meant to upgrade 1TB Disk X to a 3TB. You removed the 1TB and added a new 3TB but instead of rebuilding it you recalculated parity. If you still have the data on the old 1TB then you should be able to mount it outside the array and copy the data over. Another approach would be adding it back to the array and do a new config to make it accept it back into the array and recalculate parity. Since I don't have any actual experience with new config I suggest you wait for further advice if you decide to take that approach since I don't want to cause you to lose anything. If instead you want to try to mount it outside the array and copy the data off it I might be able to point you in the right direction.
February 13, 201313 yr Post a screenshot of unRAID main so I can make sure I know what your current situation is.
February 13, 201313 yr Write down the serial number of the old drive. Cleanly powerdown, connect the old drive and reboot. If everything still looks good then proceed. If you have unMenu installed you can probably just look there to see the old drive. If so, post a screenshot. If not: Take a look at this wiki entry. There is a command there we will use to determine the drive letter that got assigned to the old drive. From the console or telnet session do ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/[au]* | grep -v part1 You should see the old drive's serial number in the list with some other stuff after it ending in sd and then a letter. This will be the drive letter of the old drive. Let me know what you get. If you can, post a screenshot of these results, or just another screenshot of unRAID main
February 13, 201313 yr Author Thanks for your help on this. I went with getting a new license file. Again much appreciated.
February 13, 201313 yr Did you happen to type initconfig or go to the Utils page and use the New Config button?
February 13, 201313 yr OK. When you get the new license you will be able to add the old 1TB back. If you want to keep any data that is still on it you will have to do New Config instead of the normal add new drive procedure. Come back for more advice if you need it.
