March 7, 201313 yr Which split level should I be using? I created a user share Media (High Water/Split Level 2/Included disks ALL) via Windows created 4 folders below. 3D Movies (500GB), Movies (1.5TB), TV Shows [Name, Season] (500GB), Music (50GB) 2TB x 4 Drives I would like for Movies to be able to span all 3 disks if necessary because Movies is biggest library right now and may get bigger. TV Shows, 3D Movies & Music I would like to keep it to below specific disks if possible. I don't want Music jumping different disks and I'm certain Music will not get bigger than 100GB. disk1>Media>Movies disk2>Media>Movies, TV Shows [Name, Season] disk3>Media>3D Movies, Music Should I be copying media to user share Media? I was going to each specific disk and trying to fill it up manually with what I have above. Any help or tips would be appreciated.
March 7, 201313 yr I believe my setting are the same as you. I created one folder Media. Media has several folders, which include Movies and TV Shows. So, if I rip a movie, I transfer it to the Movies folder. If it is a TV show it goes to the TV Show folder. I don't transfer files to individual disks. UnRaid does that for me.
March 7, 201313 yr Dv8ed. With a split level of 2 then all your folders directly under Media are potentially going to be on all disks. Since you have different requirements for Movies and the other media types, perhaps you need more than one share set up so they can have different properties? The alternative is to manually manage things and copy explicitly to specific disks. However that adds an extra level of manual effort you may prefer not to have?
March 8, 201313 yr Author Thanks everyone... since I want only one share and want specific media to go into specific folders, I'll move into disks instead of shares. Since I'm new to unRAID it's probably best to try and learn from your mistakes. I'm pretty sure I will re-structure my shares on my next unRAID build.
