March 22, 201313 yr Ordered my entire build, it's coming tomorrow, although, I just realized that I totally forgot about a cache drive (If I order it now however, it won't make a real difference. Data drives will take ~ 3 days to preclear anyway, that's around the delivery time of a drive). I'm currently thinking of getting a low end SSD, reason being is that the read/write speed is already limited by my net speed but I'd prefer to not have a disk spinning 24/7 writing plex logs. Is this a good idea? Also, what's a good model that fits that description, preferably cheap, however, I do want it to be at-least 128GB since I do write ~ 80GB a day. EDIT:- Just a note, my current server has a samsung 830 128GB model in it, it works fine, although I'm not really wanting to drop $150 on an SSD, I'm only currently using an 830 because I had it lying around. EDIT2:- Looking on newegg this seems to be one of the cheapest 128GB SSD that's made by a reputable brand, and that itself is $100, which, is a lot for a cache drive, I feel. Gahh. Not really sure what I'm asking here even, other than "Anyone know a good 128GB drive made by a reputable company that's cheap? I don't really care about read/write as long as they're both >=80MB/s."
March 22, 201313 yr Do you really need to write the logs to non-volatile storage? I presume that your plex logs (your major concern?) are not 80GB/day? If not, my inclination would be to write those to the memory drive and, if necessary, move them to a physical drive, as a cron job, on a periodic basis. This would allow you to retain a rotating drive for cache purposes. I'm still dubious about the life expectancy of SSDs when sustaining heavy write activity, such as caching and logging.

No, the logs themselves aren't 80GB per day, they're around 10MB per day and are deleted afterwards. The 80GB a day is my internet capping out over torrents & usenet, which, is active 24/7 and obviously (even without plex logs) would keep a drive spinning 24/7.
