March 25, 201313 yr Hi, so i am a recent newby to unraid but i have spent alot of time reading and trying things. and i think i am up against a wall here. I have an issue with Plex that started when i did a complete re-install of 5.11 Pro and my plugins. (the re install was necessary to correct permissions issues) any time i reboot or shutdown my server currently plex starts automatically but is starting from scratch every time. if i configure it and leave it alone it will work as designed. i can stop and re-start the service with no problems. I have done a reset of the permissions as a test. and it isnt losing the folder path information, it just loses my account, mounted library collections, and the associated information about the media. if i browse the disk i can see those files still exist but for some reason its not correctly using it. Any ideas here ? my only thought is blowing out the disks and starting the array all over again but i dont like not being able to fix it.
March 25, 201313 yr Author i should also add that plex channels are lost, if i diddnt explain it very well it looks like plex is running "first run" every time i reboot or shutdown.
March 29, 201313 yr Author What are your library and temp folders set to in the plugin settings? I was using /usr/Media/ and plex would populate a subfolder called "Application Support" i had tried to chown / chmod / delete all to no avail before using a new folder path that caused the current issue. Update: Since i couldn't take control to delete the folder and hadnt gotten a response at the time i stopped trying to repair it and started over from scratch. interestingly enough on the rebuild it did not create the application support directory ( and if it created any folder its not visible from any perspective be it command line, server interface, or from a windows system) but somehow retains data on reboot - note that i am using a new path instead of placing it in the library that hold my media i an using a new path one layer up "/usr/plex/" for it to use
March 30, 201313 yr You should still avoid putting the plex application files on the USB stick at all costs (which is what it appears you may be doing.) The plex library sees a LOT of disk reads/writes and will kill a USB stick in no time. Hopefully you have a cache drive - if so, create a cache only share on it and point Plex towards that for its app storage, which should look something like: /mnt/user/library If you called the cache only share library. If you don't have a cache drive, I'd at least put it on an array drive, eg: /mnt/disk1/library

I can't even remember. Pretty sure only /boot/ and /mnt/ are restored after a boot, install it to a dedicated share, I have my share set up called "Appdata" and then sab, sick, couch, transmission and plex all have their own subdirectories there.
April 22, 201313 yr Author its not a temp but your comment struck a chord, i re-mapped it direct to disk e.g. /mnt/disk2/pms/ - best part of this is its easy to abandon if permissions go sideways again - all good now thanks folks

Any changes there are lost up reboot. The entire unraid OS is running in RAM. Your flash drive is, for the most part, a read only location and no parts of the OS are stored on any array disks. Do you not have a cache disk? You are going to be better off putting your Plex library on your cache disk. Plex is going to prevent disk2 from spinning down if you store it there. If you have a cache disk create a cache only share and store it there.
