April 13, 201313 yr Since yesterday I have a problem with my server. It all started with a disc with red ball. In fact one of the drives was not recognized by the controller I replaced the cable and the disc is back first with the blue ball and then orange. I launched a rebuild of the data. This morning the server had the parity disk with a red ball and the other hard disk, what went wrong yesterday, with the orange ball an unformatted status. I replaced the cables again and now I have two disks, the parity disk with red ball and the other disc with orange ball in a position to "unformatted". I tried a reconstruction of the data without success, and although even if I try the formatting does not change anything, the system is back online, but always with the two discs with orange dot. What should I do? Now I removed the disk and this is my unraid:
April 13, 201313 yr Your screen shot shows that disk 7 is not being seen by the system, and that the system thinks parity is suspect. You should include the syslog to allow others to try and diagnose what is happening. Whether the data on disk 7 is recoverable might depend on whether the disk is really damaged or not and exactly what actions you have already taken. It sounds as if you may have told the system at one point to reformat that disk, and if so its data is lost.
April 13, 201313 yr Author Thank's for the reply. I attach my syslog. I have deliberately excluded the disc 7 but if allowance is seen as to be formatted. Currently I run a large smart test on the disk 7. Short test ended without error. But also if I lost my disk 7 is not possible to rebuild data on my parity without this disk? The server works correctly I can view the data on it. Actually is down for security but if I start the array all works. syslog.zip
April 13, 201313 yr I had a quick look at your syslog (but I am not an expert in interpreting these, but all I could see were messages about disk 7 being removed. If you can see all the data, then I would think that this means that disk7 is being 'simulated' using the parity disk and if you could resolve the issues with disk 7 then this disk can be rebuilt to get you back to a clean working state.
April 15, 201313 yr Can you clear up a little confusion... The screen shot shows that Disk 7 is unassigned. Did you unassign it yourself? The system is seeing 9 drives, only one of which is unassigned, the Seagate ST2000DM001. Is this Disk 7? It appears to be the only drive attached to a new high speed SATA controller with 2 6.0 Gbps ports. If the drive dropped off before, there may be something loose or defective with this card. When you say you can see all your data, does that include the data that is on Disk 7? (there's nothing lost if so!) As you know, do not format any drives!
April 15, 201313 yr Author All started with a disc (7) with a red ball. I replaced the cable and the disc is back available with orange ball. I launched a rebuild of the data and after some hours I found two disks with orange ball, the disc 7 and the parity disk. I turned off and restarted the server and the orange ball of the disc 7 is going red. I removed the disc 7, did some tests on the disk, and decided to replace it, I'm waiting for a new disc. Now the system is running, but I use it only for reading. Some data, those of the last days, are missing. I hope with the replacement of the disk 7 can recover all data.
