"Unknown Filesystem grub rescue" on Setup

Featured Replies

I decided to try unRAID, so I downloaded the latest stable release, put it on a flash drive, and get this message when I try to boot from it to do the initial setup. I've tried a handful of basic linux commands at the prompt, but none seem to work. I did the ls command, and saw a couple of partitions (I guess), but don't really know what to do with them to get the system to boot. I tried two different flash drives, so I know that's not the problem.

Advice for a noob?

Thanks,

Scott

The unRAID bootable USB stick you are using does not depend on Grub to boot. It uses SysLinux. So I suspect you are actually trying to boot from one of your hard drives.

If this is the case then you need to make sure your BIOS settings are set to boot only from USB. Another approach is to remove all other hard drives from your system and try booting again from the USB stick.

See if that helps.

I unplugged the power from all of my hard drives and tried it first. When it failed the first time, I went into the BIOS and disabled all the SATA ports as well. I'll try the .bat file tonight when I get a chance.

In hindsight, the .bat file is the issue. I went back and looked at the instructions. I skipped  The last line that starts with 'For Windows XP....'. As soon as I saw that, I went on.
