December 24, 200817 yr Getting to know unRAID, I have been able to successfully (with help) add some user customizations, replace failed disks, etc. However, I seem to be mentally "stuck" on shares and allocation. In the simplest terms, here's what I have: On my unRAID 4.4 system A share called "Data" Disk1 with folder Data Disk2 with folder Data Disk3 with folder Data Allocation method = High Water Split level = 0 I use an application called SyncBack to copy lots of files to the share "Data". It is my understanding that when Disk1 becomes full, unRAID will automatically begin to populate Disk2 (share Data) with files. However in testing, when Disk1 becomes full, my backup app just starts throwing errors that the "disk is full" and nothing is stored on Disk2, etc. The folders under Data are nested pretty deeply, but I don't think more than Split level 0 (which is think is 999). If necessary, is a Split level of greater than 999 possible - if that is my problem? Note that the top folder Data was manually created on each disk. Any sub folders are created by the backup application as data is copied over. Based on the above, is my understand of allocation, shares and split level correct? Or do I once again go to the back of the class? Thanks for any information.
December 25, 200817 yr Author Well, I set the split level to 999 and it seems to work as expected. I guess I was confused in thinking that split level 0 was now the same as 999 in unRAID version 4.4. Guess not. I have read so many different posts on the subject of split level and allocation that I probably confused myself.
December 25, 200817 yr Glad you got it working. Version 4.3.3 works like you would have expected. Split level 0 works just like 999. Looks like it was changed in version 4.4 Phil
