mac os x,Finder -takes forever to connect to server, or to open shares (list dir

Featured Replies

hi,

i have a persisting problem here - well, basically, it takes sometimes 3 - 5 minutes to connect to the server, and than to list directories in the shares - also takes ages. sometimes finder crashes. sometimes it can't connect. anyway, it PAIN. its been like this since Lion, and nothing changed with Mavericks...upgrading to unraid 5 (from 4.7) or using different protocols (AFP/SMB) - doesn't matter.

(it also happens when disks are spun up, so thats not the issue...)

on windows it takes seconds...

i believe there is some problem with mac in general....

i'd like to ask if someone knows a fix maybe...(or at lease the reason why this happening...)

thanks

MAC OS X 10.9

i use AFP  (but i checked smb - no difference...so...i don't care what protocol to use as long as it works...)

There is no problem with Mac in general.  Shares come up in 5 seconds or less for me via my mbp running 10.9

Perhaps post a syslog and we can look into it further.  Also disable all plugins and check that the issue persists.

I have found if you run the cache_dirs plugin and set the depth to 9999 smb read access is pretty quick, but found writes are a bit slow.  I am currently using NFS and the performance from my MAC seems pretty good overall...

I did have the same problem, bun not now.

I use Dynamix Cache Directories plugin and have set the Adaptive scan level depth: to 99 (not Auto !!!)
