Command Line Stop - Final Step

Featured Replies

Hey guys-

Recently added a UPS to my unRAID setup & I'm trying to run through the manual shutdown process when/if power goes out.

Following this helpful wiki...

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Console#To_cleanly_Stop_the_array_from_the_command_line

... I've successfully unmounted all drives in the array and run the "/root/mdcmd stop" command without error.

Is it safe to hit the power button on my server case now? All the fans are still spinning, so it's hard to tell if it's safe yet to fully kill power to the box.

Yes -- the fans won't stop until you actually power it off.

But you shouldn't have to ever manually shut it down => did you install the Clean PowerDown and APC UPS packages (from UnMenu) ??    ... as long as you have the USB communications from the UPS connected to the server, these packages will automatically shut it down after a power failure for you.

I haven't installed anything yet- just received the APC BR1500G unit today, but I'll look into those scripts you suggest. Haven't tried my hand at any plugins yet, still running the base 5.0 unRAID package.

Given that I'm sitting at the command line now with everything unmounted, could I run a shutdown or poweroff command? I'm googling the linux commands for physically powering down my computer if that gives you any clue to my technical expertise on the subject. Hoping there's some clean way to shut 'er down this time.

Many thanks for your advice-

If you've done all the steps in the Wiki, then UnRAID is effectively stopped.    Just kill the power  :)

But when you boot back up, you should install UnMenu;  then install the Clean Powerdown and APC UPS packages.    After that, your system will be well protected from power glitches and will automatically do a clean shutdown whenever the power is out for more than the configured time (by default I believe it's 5 minutes).

Can I just drop the UnMenu files on my unRAID OS Flash Drive? Do you recommend editing the "go" script to auto-start it on every reboot? I'm hoping these tasks just appear more daunting then they are.

And thanks again for the green light to kill the power. Everything has come back clean :)

Installing UnMenu is very simple.

(1) Copy the "unmenu_install" file to an "Unmenu" folder on the UnRAID flash drive

(2) Log into the server (either via console or telnet), and run these commands:

cd /boot/unmenu

unmenu_install -i -d /boot/unmenu

(3) To run it, just do this:

cd /boot/unmenu

./uu

To set UnMenu to auto-run on every boot, add this line in your Go script:

/boot/unmenu/uu

For UPS support, the only packages needed are the Safe Shutdown [powerdown-1.02] and UPS control [apcupsd-3.14.3], which must both be set to auto install on reboot.

Incredibly helpful gary- thanks.

For the newbies that may stumble across this thread in a future forum search, if you don't want to hit a power switch to shut it down, you can run the following command after following all the steps of the wiki.

shutdown -h now
