rhino
Hi again. Part two of another issue is that my when I reboot my PC, I cannot access my server. Stopping and starting the array fixes it immediately, but I expect that the loss of connectivity shouldn't be happening. Has anyone experience this before, and can offer some advice please? I've must be using the wrong words to search the internet because I'm coming up blank. Windows 8.1 unRaid 5.0 on HP Proliant Microserver Thanks again for your time. syslog.zip Link to comment
dgaschk
Is the Windows workgroup set exactly the same on all hosts? Capitalization seems to matter, i.e., "workgroup" does not equal "Workgroup" or "WORKGROUP". Link to comment
DaleWilliams
dgaschk, Is Settings->SMB->Local master: YES also hopeful for this, or is that for something else? Link to comment
rhino
dgaschk: Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I have named the workgroups identically. (all caps - but I copy > pasted to make sure) DaleWilliams: The PC drops the connection regardless of whether LMB is set to YES or NO. According to the Configuration Tutorial, it suggests that leaving it as NO is fine, unless you have trouble browsing the shares. Apparently the latest version of unRaid is 5.0.4 (I was unaware), so I'll upgrade to that and hopefully it will resolve this issue as well. I'll confirm ASAP Link to comment
dgaschk
If the server is always on then setting it to YES is correct. Setting to YES may help in any case. I don't think setting it to yes will do any harm, unless the server is switched off while other computers are still browsing the SMB network (network neighborhood). Link to comment
rhino
It's been set to YES for the majority of the time. Just changed it to NO last night. Link to comment
rhino
I've updated to unRaid 5.0.4 but I'm still experiencing the same network dropout after reboot. Would it matter that I login to my machine with a Microsoft account and not a local account? Link to comment
rhino
Looks like this might be a Windows 8 (8.1) issue. I've got another PC which is running Windows 7. Mapped a drive to a share on my server. Rebooted the machine. Mappings restored without any problem. I wonder if it IS related to using a Microsoft Account... More testing to be done... rhino
Looks like this is "solved" but I'm not sure why. Disconnected my Microsoft account, worked perfectly. Reconnected the MS account - couldn't restore connections. Disconnected the MS account, works perfectly. But... why? Link to comment

dirtysanchez
Something new to Windows 8. Default signin is with a Microsoft account as opposed to a local machine account. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/microsoft-account-tutorial Link to comment
rhino
Yeah it's effectively Microsoft's iCloud. In terms of logging in with an MS account, it enables all your online services and syncs your PCs settings etc. So, logging in at work will look the same as logging in at home. Unfortunately, it borks the server connection. I'll see if there is something in the settings that it might be trying to sync that is killing it, and that I can perhaps turn off. Link to comment
DaleWilliams
/RANT ON What is with these 'cloud services', anyway? Connections to GoogleDrive are breaking the Mac OS X Mavericks Finder. And now Microsoft's cloud is breaking Windows? Shouldn't 'cloud services' be transparent and not opaque? /RANT OFF sorry to go off-topic...but lately, 'disconnect from all cloud drives' has been added to my generic 'tech support checklist'.
