[SOLVED ]Upgraded to 5.0.4 and cannot ping, telnet or access webGui

Featured Replies

I have been using unRAID 4.7 for over a year now and wanted to upgrade this weekend. I rolled back my 4.7 unRAID to stock and compared my flash to a pristine 4.7 to verify. I then upgraded as per the wiki instructions to 5.0.4 located at http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_Instructions. After I rebooted, I cannot access my unRAID server remotely. It will not respond to pings, I cannot telnet to it nor can I access the webGUI.

From the console of the unRAID server, I cannot reach out to the world using wget except for the unRAID webGUI.  I then ran the following commands and their outputs are contained in the attached zip file:

ethtool eth0 - see ethtool_eth0_output.log

ethtool -i eth0 - see ethtool_i_eth0_output.log

ethtool -S eth0 - see ethtool_S_eth0_output.log

ifconfig eth0 - see ifconfig_eth0_output.log

lsmod - see lsmod_output.log

In the ethtool_eth0_output.log, I noticed attribute "Link detected" is No.

Any ideas? This hardware setup works fine with 4.7. I have rolled back as my family needs the server. I can easily attempt another upgrade if necessary to extract more information.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated. I am a promoter of unRAID to any that listen.

Dustin

I may have found something. My motherboard has dual LAN ports. I cannot disable the second LAN port via BIOS;however, after reading the manual, there is a jumper to disable the second LAN port.

I moved the jumper, fired up the server and voila - I was able to ping my unRAID server, telnet into it and access the webGUI.

I am cautiously optimistic at this point in time and will update this post once I have confirmed all is well.

Dustin

I have same motherboard/cpu as you and I am running 5.04, unfortunately I do not know why it will not work. I did upgrade my motherboard bios before I went to 5.0 beta. I do not have a raid card however, still less than 6 drives.

I do have both lan ports connected ethernet to my switch for remote IPMI since its headless.

I did not have to disable the second lan port however, maybe just had ethernet plugged into wrong port?

Status update - disabling the second LAN port seemed to do the trick and all is well on my unRAID server.

I do not know why disabling the second LAN port made a difference; however, I have read many posts indicating/suggesting to only have one LAN port. IE, if you purchased a NIC card you must disable the onboard LAN via the BIOS. I rolled the dice and decided to disable my second unused LAN port and my server now works.  I am guessing buried in the attached logs are clues indicating a problem with the second LAN (eth1).

If this was a work project, I would dig into why but since this is at home....I am happy with it just working.

sadkisson - I know you are asking a question but I do not have an answer for you. In my case, the second LAN port was unused and it was still causing me grief. It was fine in unRAID 4.7 but unRAID 5.0.4 did not like it at all. Sorry but I do not have any other information for you. Dustin

No problem, glad everything is working again!

It's simpler to just move the Ethernet cable to the other port.
