Here's something odd.

4.4.1 seems to be working well except when I right click on the drive in My Computer under Windows XP and go to properties, it says the drive is Zero size and subsequently it won't let me access it again until I stop the array, and re-enable User Shares.  It's not listed as disabled, but re-applying the enabled status and restarting the array brings everything back to normal, until I try to look at the properties again, and the same thing happens.

I have the similar problem. Windows XP

1. I enter through "My network Places".

2. It asks for my shares password. I enter it.

3.I am able to view my shares.

4.When I try to go "back" to the previous folders,it asks for shares password again.

5.It won't take my password the second time, locks me out of the shares.

Similar problem with Vista and user-shares.

I can see the share folders, but when I attempt to open any of them I get

"Windows cannot access \\TOWER\pictures

Check the spelling of the name, Otherwise there might be a problem with the your network....

I can get to and open the "disk" shares and the "flash" share.

My MG-35's can get to the User-Shares... (pretty sure they use a login/password to log on, but then again, I think Vista does too...)

Using smbstatus to see how samba is doing...

root@Tower:~# smbstatus

Samba version 3.2.5

Movies-Xmas   6655   _none_        Tue Jan  6 23:45:28 2009

192.168.2.21 is the MG-35 media player in the den, logging in as "media"

192.168.2.8 is the Vista PC, logging in as "joe"

I think the "joe" login has no password, the "media" one does.  Perhaps that is a clue to what is happening.

I also just tried accessing the shares using OpenSuse 11.1 using its network Browser. The shares are not accessable with 4.4.1

I then reverted back to Unraid 4.33, works fine.

I'll have to stick with 4.3.3 until this is resolved.

Please download 4.4.2 to see if this issue is resolved.

I will test tonight

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm was having the same problems - couldn't access mapped drives or shares from time to time and pulling my hair out to figure out a solution.   A (temporary?) solution was to stop the unRaid array then restart (rebooting unRaid didn't help).  I can now connect to all unRaid shares using Vista Home Premium.  10 minutes later, I can't connect.  It's hit and miss - very random.  I'm also using a new stock Lime Tech unRaid box (MD-1510/LC) with new WD 1Tb drives and unRaid 4.4.1.

Not sure the root cause, but it's definitely annoying.

Have you upgraded to v4.4.2?  The Release Notes report a bug fix that may be related to this, v4.4.1 may have had an unstable version of Samba.
