January 5, 201412 yr In my plex temp folder is some transcode files from a couple months ago that will not delete. It says I do not have permission. It is taking up 1.25gb, is there anyway to get rid of that?
January 7, 201412 yr Author tried using that command with the file name and it did nothing. when i try to delete the file through windows it comes up with error: "you require permission from Unix user\unraid-plex to make changes to this folder"
January 7, 201412 yr Try mc (midnight commander) from command line and navigate to what you want to delete and it will be gone...
January 16, 201412 yr Author Try mc (midnight commander) from command line and navigate to what you want to delete and it will be gone... sounds good will try that tonight....another question figure would ask I share my plex server with my dad who in the past has had no problems minus a littler buffering here and there. But now it seems like he gets a lot more constant buffering or freezing. He has tried using the website and the program in windows 8. Could this be something more with my setup and the upload not being high enough bandwidth? Or his download or the server underperforming?
January 16, 201412 yr Could be any of those things: 1. Your upload speed being to slow. 2. His download speed being too slow (less likely unless he has a real slow connection). 3. Server issue (not transcoding quickly enough). 4. Client issue on his end. If it used to work fine before, but is not working as well now, what's changed?
January 17, 201412 yr Author 1. My upload on my network is running at 35+mpbs... 2. He has mentioned before that his download is sometimes crappy at night thanks to comcast but his connection is rated at 25mpbs. 3. What would be the fix to beef it up? 4. And maybe.. Not much has changed on my end I can think of unless something goofy happend in plex but it seems fine on my end. Have not made any hardward changes lately.
January 17, 201412 yr If your upstream bandwidth is 35+Mbps then the issue isn't your outbound bandwidth (assuming you are actually getting 35+Mbps). Anything above 3Mbps is suficient for most remote streaming. What are the specs of your server? The next time your Dad is having issues streaming have him run a speedtest to see if his download speed is the issue. Anything less than about 3Mbps and he will get lots of rebuffering. What is the remote quality set to in his Plex client?
January 17, 201412 yr Author Intel G550, Asrock B75 pro3m, 4gb ram Will do, and I think he has tried different settings from 720p down to 360(or something close)
January 17, 201412 yr Author Try mc (midnight commander) from command line and navigate to what you want to delete and it will be gone... Worked perfect thank you.
January 17, 201412 yr Intel G550, Asrock B75 pro3m, 4gb ram Will do, and I think he has tried different settings from 720p down to 360(or something close) That CPU is a bit on the weaker side for transcoding, but should be able to handle a single transcode no problem. More then one concurrent transcode though, not sure how it would perform. When you view media locally, are you transcoding or direct streaming? If you are transcoding locally, and he tries to watch something remotely (which will likely require transcoding) it may be that your CPU is maxed out. Next time he is having issues, take a look at the server and see what the CPU utilization is at. Remote quality in Plex clients is generally specified in bitrates, not resolution (at least in any Plex client I have used).
