January 30, 201412 yr Hi I'm looking at mounting a small Unraiserver based on a mini ITX mobo and case. Only looking at the Free version (1 parity drive + 2 data drive) for now What would be the cheapest options out there?
January 30, 201412 yr My build (in sig), while relatively inexpensive, certainly isn't the most inexpensive build possible. The first question you need to answer is what are you going to use it for? Will it be a vanilla unRAID file server only, or do you plan to run plugins? If it's a file server only, an integrated Atom mobo is about as cheap as you can get. It would even run some of the plugins around here without issue. But if you want to use something like Plex, you'll need more horsepower. The Lian Li case I used is an EXCELLENT case, and I highly recommend it, but it's pricey. Of course, you can use any SFF mini-ITX case that fits your budget. Beyond that, we'd really need to know what you plan to do with the server to give further recommendations.
January 30, 201412 yr If it's a vanilla file server only, or with minimal plugins, something like this would work great and is about as cheap as you will find. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128597 Or this embedded Celeron, which has a little more horsepower than the AMD APU mobo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138368 Both have 4 SATA ports. Just add RAM, PSU, drives, and case.
January 31, 201412 yr I mean plain unRAID. In otherwords, unRAID with no plugins or add-ons. A file-server only.
