March 3, 201412 yr So I just upgraded to a pro key and figured while I had the server off and was copying the key over I would upgrade to 5.05. But I accidentally copied over and deleted the config directory. I had an old copy of the usb key from a few months ago so I decided I would just copy the old config directory over. This must have been before I added my most recent drive because everything showed up in the right spot except for the newest 2TB drive and the cache drive. I assigned them but that drive (disk 4) is blue dotted and saying it's a new drive. Now I'm scared to turn on the array. What should I do? EDIT: Actually I can't turn on the array anyway. It wants me to clear that drive. It should have data on it. Everything should be good. Maybe I just need to rebuild parity?
March 3, 201412 yr The old config folder had your old config as you have guessed. You will have to do a new config. That will let you assign the drive without clearing it. You could probably trust parity as well assuming the array hasn't been started since you did this.
March 3, 201412 yr Author Cool. So I can just delete the disk.cfg file and when it comes back up ill reassign all the frives like they were and start the array? Or will all my drives be blue dotted then?
March 3, 201412 yr Author Just read that there's a New Config option on the Utils page. I assume I should use that?
March 3, 201412 yr Yes. There should also be a check box to allow you to trust parity. Only check the box if the array has not been started since you wiped out your config.
March 3, 201412 yr Author The array hasn't been started since but I believe it was doing a parity check when I shut it down to do the upgrade. Does that matter if the check wasn't complete?
March 3, 201412 yr You could probably trust it anyway and then restart the parity check. Just to make sure we haven't misunderstood anything, you must be sure that all of your drives are assigned correctly, including parity, before doing New Config. If you accidentally assign a data drive to the parity slot you will be screwed.
March 3, 201412 yr Author Yep. I took a screen shot before I shutdown. So I know exactly which drives go where. And when it came back up I didn't even have the option to start the array because it wanted to clear the disk. Then I shut it down and asked what to do here So I'll bring it back up. Hit new config trusting parity and assign the drives back just like in my screenshot.
March 3, 201412 yr Author I don't want to jinx it but I think it's back up. Running parity check now. Thanks!
