Silly Windows 8 access problems for shares

So I recently got a sparkly new Windows 8 laptop.

 

Now have problems connecting to my Unraid server with windows explorer, either with DNS or IP address.  Connecting with Putty is fine for example.  Strange thing is I get a "cannot locate Tower blah blah" error message, but if I keep trying after about the 10th time it will connect successfully.

 

Anyone have any ideas or tests I can try out?  Hosts file or something?!?

    I get this from time to time on my win 8 laptops connecting via WiFi but not my wired PC's so not sure what issue is.

    Yes this occurs always when on wifi.  Weird.  And annoying  :(

    It might be that there is a delay until dhcp is properly resolved because I find that when hostname doesn't properly resolve the IP address does (or at least sooner than hostname)....
