July 14, 201411 yr I have an Asus Eee Box PC sitting around collecting dust. I'm interested in getting it up and running performing application duties such as CouchPotatoServer, Sickbeard, MySQL for XBMC, Transmission, etc. Doing this I can take all these apps off the unRAID server which I am having issues with (random lock ups, I think tied to the Ethernet interface), aiding in the investigation. I have a copy of Win7 x64 I could use, but given that this Eee Box is running an Atom w/ 2GB of ram I would think it would run slowly and be a wasted copy of an x64 OS that I paid for anyways. My question is, which OS would be best (i.e. Linux, but which version?) that would run well on this box but not be overly complicated for a Linux novice like myself (unRAID was my first experience with Linux, and is still my only experience with Linux). thanks!!
July 14, 201411 yr A Debian like linux distro (Debian, Ubuntu etc..) is the way to go. There is a LOT of documentation about them, and the package control app is very good (APT). Or you can use Windows, but I do think it's more complicated to make python work right with Windows.
