July 15, 201411 yr I have a new server running the trial version of unRAID with eight 3TB drives in it. As per the FAQ, I used this command to run preclear on four of the drives at once, one per Putty 'session': preclear_disk.sh -r 65536 -w 65536 -b 2000 -A /dev/sdX [where X is the appropriate letter] Now that the first pass is done, I wanted to kick off another pass of preclear on those same drives, but I get the message "Clearing will NOT be performed". I tried this modified version of the command with the same result: ./preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdc Is there something special I need to do to make preclear run a second time? ################################################################## 1.15 Device Model: HGST HDN724030ALE640 Serial Number: PK1234P8JJJZ2P LU WWN Device Id: 5 000cca 22ce3b4a6 Firmware Version: MJ8OA5E0 User Capacity: 3,000,592,982,016 bytes [3.00 TB] Disk /dev/sdc: 3000.6 GB, 3000592982016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 364801 cylinders, total 5860533168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Disk /dev/sdc doesn't contain a valid partition table ######################################################################## invoked as ./preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdc ######################################################################## (partition starting on sector 63) (it will not be 4k-aligned) Are you absolutely sure you want to clear this drive? July 15, 201411 yr Author An error on my part - may help someone someday. When I copy and pasted the commands from the FAQ, I must have picked up a doublespace code or an invisible carriage return. I copied everything to Notepad and ran it there and everything is fine. Even though the "Yes" showed up on my screen, it was not executing that text and therefore skipping the preclear.
