February 25, 200917 yr Hi all, I have a 6.3 terabyte unRAID system. It is actually a purchased system from Lime technology and is running version 4.3.3 Out of the box I put my drives in, started the system up and then created a share called "Media", I basically copy all my files to this share from a vista machine. All has been going great, but after filling up 3.8 terabyte (still 2.56 terabyte free), I am getting an out of space error when copying to specific folders on the share. If I copy to a different share the file copies over. Is this an issue with spanning? meaning is my folder dedicated to one drive? When I look at the system via the web console, I can see that disk2 is FULL, only 204 bytes free. I am not linux literate, just no time to learn, but I am very computer literate and can follow directions. I would appreciate a point in the right direction on how to fix. Guess I should hook my monitor up to the unraid box so I can actually run some commands from the box itself. I have been managing solely from the web interface from my vista box. Many thanks in advance Greg
February 25, 200917 yr This thread may have some answers for you: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1051.0 Also look here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1795.0 The last post on the first thread describes how unRAID acted on an earlier version. Current versions do keep the user shares view of files in sync with the disk view when adding files to the disk shares directly. Current versions also have changed the meaning of split level 0. To help you further, we need to know: What is your split level? How are your user-shares configured. Have you included/excluded disks? (You basically told us nothing) As for running out of space - it depends on how the file is created. Some protocols will tell the target system that it is going to create a file of exactly N bytes' date=' and then proceed to write the file. Others will first create the target file with size 0, and then "append" to it as the copy proceeds, and hence the target system doesn't know the final size of the file until after it's been written.[/quote'] If the program you are using to copy the file creates it at 0 bytes size, it will fit on the drive with 204 bytes free and be created there. As it grows, it will certainly run out of space. If it creates the file at its true eventual size, it would have chosen a different disk IF YOU HAVE CONFIGURED USERS SHARES TO ALLOW IT. Time to post details of your user-share configuration, don't you think? Joe L.
February 25, 200917 yr Author Hi Joe, I think one of the strengths of unRaid is that the it is very easy to get up an running. I configured everything around 6 months ago from the web interface. I did read out the various options when I set the system up, but forgot there were details in there about the shares. so to your point, I am set up this way: Allocation = high water split level = 2 included & excluded disks = blank exceptions = blank I only use windows to copy over media files (normally avi files) over to the share. I will read the links you offered up to see if I can find something else there. I will also go back and read up on the split level and allocation settings as I can't remember what they represent. Appreciate any quick insights anyone might have to save some time. Cheers, Greg
February 25, 200917 yr Author Thanks again Joe, I went back and read up carefully on the split setting and realized I did not understand it correctly. My directory structure is deeper than what I had it set to, so I changed the split setting to 4 and it is now writing again. Glad that was easy!! Cheers from Hong Kong! Greg
February 25, 200917 yr This question probably should have already been in the FAQ! I have added a link to this thread, as well as other relevant links including the ones Joe mentioned, to the FAQ. Feel free to edit. FAQ: Why is my User Share out of space when there is plenty left?
