Cannot delete file

Featured Replies

I am trying to delete the Applications (located on the cache drive) share for Plex. I have spent two days Googling for for a way to do this, but nothing works. I am sick of seeing  "You do not have permission." I have downloaded a few hacks that others claimed worked for them, but I had no luck. Any help/solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Use mc, midnight commander, or change the permissions of the folder/file.

Thanks, for the reply.

I have changed permissions to give full access controll to all users. (Actually I am the only user with administrative privelages). I have tried Advanced Security Options and still no luck. I keep getting alearts such as, "Failed to enumerate objects in container. Access is denied," and "The security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object."

Someone on this forum had the same problem and Midnight Commander was suggested. I downloaded the program but did not know enough to direct it to the cache directoty on my server. The path to the file from my Win 8 computer  is: \\Tower\Cache\Applications.  I tried to enter this, cd\\tower\Cache\Applications. The path is probably wrong, but by this time I had had enough searching, which brought to seek out the help of someone who knows more than me.

Use putty to telnet to unRAID and type mc and midnight commander will run. Then browse to the folder to delete the offending files.

I used Putty to telnet in to the server. After starting MC I'm not quite sure at what level I am at in the directory tree. From the /.. level I see various directories such as bin, boot,....home,lib, etc, but from any of these I cannot find the cache drive or any of other array drives. I keep getting an alert stating "No such file or directory" I guess I need to know the directory level I should be starting from, and the correct command to enter. I have been using commands such as these: cd cache, cd /cache, cd /disk1, etc.

One other question:Should I use Putty's default  port number?

The files you're looking for should be in /mnt/cache

Good News, all. The file is now history.

Google searches indicates many people have trouble taking ownership of files. This is not a isolated incident. I have had this problem in the past, but going forward I will have MC in my side holster.

Again, thanks to all who replied to my post
