February 28, 200917 yr I'm using Server Plus 4.4.2 and have encountered the mysterious disk shrinking problem on one of my disks after a reboot. None of the disks were touched or moved, bur after a reboot the one disk showed up as 1056 bytes toot small. As per Tomm's reply in an old post (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=563.0) I restored the array and it is now syncing and will hopefully be OK afterwards. Just wanted to let you know that the problem is still there and it is quite disconcerning until you sift through the posts and find the explanation and solution. Regards Johan
February 28, 200917 yr Author It's actually an ABIT IS7 with an "old" Intel hyperthreading CPU. So nothing fancy and it's been running fine for a long time until this incident.
February 28, 200917 yr Interesting. I had the problem a long time ago on my Gigabyte motherboard that I use for unRAID, but I finally got to some settings with which the "shrink" didn't happen. When I recently needed to upgrade the firmware on one of my Seagate hard drives, I used a different Gigabyte motherboard (I'm not touching anything on the unRAID one), and afterwards, I had experienced the shrink. I *think* the Gigabytes are creating an HPA somehow connected with their Xpress Recovery technology. In fact, I could not get rid of the HPA with either HDAT2 or Seatools when it's connected to one of these Gigabyte motherboards. After I connected it to another board (an Intel), I was able to get rid of the HPA, and when I re-installed it into my correct-BIOS-configured unRAID machine, I had my size back.
