iTunes Server

Featured Replies

Anyone got this to work on SimpleFeatures? I have around 20k tracks but iTunes just hangs all the time loading media from the Tower.

Thanks!

I can’t answer your question, but I thought you might be interested in how I am doing this. I set up a VM in VirtualBox on the unRAID server (I’m using Mac OS X Mountain Lion) and run iTunes from there. More overhead, but now I can use it as a Home Share server and stream video to my Apple TV. You could do it in Windows too. Looking forward, I’ll either figure out how to get Mac OS X to run on KVM (at least one person has said he did this) or set up a Windows VM in KVM.

Although we have Sonos which is great it doesn't have any sort of Genius playlist feature, so you either have to make your own playlists in Sonos (ain't nobody got time for that) or import created playlists from iTunes. Due to the size of the library it can't be stored locally on a Mac hence why its all on the Tower and why I was trying to get iTunes server to work.

We have a old Mac Mini that just runs NewzNab - so I added the tracks to iTunes on there and enabled Genius and shared the library out. The sharing part works fine, the Genius bit not so much.

Its annoying that there are many options to discovering new music like Spotify et al, but nothing to help with your existing library.
