September 25, 201411 yr Issue: If I run a preclear on a certain couple of disks they both hang the machine after a while. The sdk drive exhibits the behavior fairly repeatedly, sdj after about 8 hours of preclear. I've attached a couple of syslogs and a terminal session dumping the syslog whilst the crash happened. At the moment I think the issue is possibly the SATA card but would be very helpful if anyone could offer any insight. syslog-2014-09-25_1.txt syslog-2014-09-25.txt output_from_terminal.txt
September 25, 201411 yr It could be a the SATA card. Can the drives be connected to other SATA ports?
September 25, 201411 yr Author The drives can be connected to other ports to test, which I'll do tomorrow. But I'll need the card eventually to run the discs I have.
September 26, 201411 yr Author The motherboard I'm using has two separate raid controller, one with 6 ports on it and one with 2 ports on it. Both drives that were causing an issue were connected to the 2 port controller. I've moved one of the disk over to the PCI-E SATA card and restarted the preclear. Its been running quite happily now for 8 minutes, usually machine hangs in the first minute. Will report back in 24 hours or so once the preclear has finished.
