HGST 4TB Coolspin $149 / WD 6T REDS $279 - B&H

HGST 4T Coolspin - $149

I can vouch for these drives as I have several. They get great reviews. No drives are perfect and there are some failures with these, but their failure rates are very low. Not high RPM or highest density, but that is not an issue for a media server.

This is not a sale price as far as I can see, but a decent price for this drive. $37.25/Tb

WD 6T REDS - $279

I have no experience with these, but initial feedback from forum members seem good so far. (I will caution that the 3T REDS have emerged as not very reliable after the first several months of use, so I am still a little gunshy on these).

This is a sale price and ends tomorrow. B&H is also closed for religious reasons until tomorrow evening, so if you want at this price you'll have to order during a short window tomorrow evening. These emerged at $299, and now have dropped to $279. I do expect these to continue to fall to around $250 over the next few months.

B&H has become my go-to place for drives recently. Free and fast shipping. Frequently the lowest price. Normally retail drives (in sturdy factory packaging), although the 6T REDS may be bulk drives.

Microcenter has the hgst 4tb drive for the same price.
