December 14, 201411 yr The problem with unRaid is that it is way too stable (What a problem to have!) I am running V5.0 rc11 and it has been up for 456 days with absolutely no issues. With something that good one forgets how to deal with it. I am setting up a raspberry pi to run Kodi (aka XBMC) using the openELEC version which runs Kodi version Gotham 13. I am getting some stuttering when playing back movies using sbm protocol to send the files from unRaid to the pi. It was suggested by the team at Kodi that I try using nfs instead of smb as the transfer protocol. No one there seems to know anything about the unRaid NAS. I am not even sure if unRaid supports nfs. To reference a file from the Pi I send it the full path to the unRaid share as: smb://Tower/movies/movie_FileName_Folder/movie_FileName.mkv. Movies is a share containing all my movies. This works perfectly except for the stuttering during playback. By stuttering I mean the audio video freezes periodically for 10 to 20 seconds and then resumes. I was told that to use nfs all I need do is change smb: to nfs: but that doesn't work. The Kodi system reports no issues with the command but the movie never comes across. Is there a tutorial somewhere in using nfs on unRaid? Do I have to configure each share or if I just turn on nfs in the web gui (SimpleFeatures v 1.0.11) I am using is that enough (that is what I did) ? Any help and assistance greatly appreciated. TIA Barry Gordon.
December 14, 201411 yr Haven't seen that version in a while but you should be able to setup NFS on the unRAID Settings page.
December 14, 201411 yr Author Thanks Truro, Well I got further. In SimpleFeatures I ffirst enabled nfs. There wre no options, just yes/no. I then went to the shares page and clicked on the share I wanted to use nfs with. The page changed to a settings page which is the one you are talking about. I set export to yes and set it as public. Is that all I need to do? I will be trying it out shortly.
December 15, 201411 yr Author Well I did all the things to set up nfs (I think). Set nfs on settings to yes; set the three shares I wanted to access through nfs to export true with security as public. If I look at unRaid using share mount from a win machine I see the three shares I exported and they look to be configured correctly (public). I cannot access them from XBMC. XBMC accepts the same command I use for accessing SMB shares with the word smb changed to nfs. The XBMC system reports that it is doing all the right things but the movie never shows up. I can not tell if it is unRaid or XBMC. I have amachine with win 7 ultimate as the OS which has a nfs client. I map a drive letter to the nfs share but when I try to access the share via that drive letter windows reports that the path does not exist. IIRC I get network Error code 53. Any suggestions or assistance greatly appreciated.
