Can't access my NAS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm not sure where to start with my problem. My set-up has been running without problems for over 2 years and as of a few weeks ago, I can't access it anymore. I was running 'unRAID Server Version 5.0-rc8a'. I'm far from good with this stuff. I had spent several days setting it up with the help of everyone on this forum but have not had the need to do more than reboot through unmenu once in a while since then. I only had Plex running on it.

I would have liked to attach a syslog file but I'm not sure how to do this when I can't access my system.

I checked my USB key by connecting it to my laptop and most of the files are dated from 2012 (back when I set it up). Can I troubleshoot my problem while the usb is connected to my laptop? What other ways can I try to access my system other than through unmenu? I remember using telnet commands a few years ago but I can't figure it out anymore.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide with this.

You're best bet right now would be to hook up a keyboard and monitor to the system and see if its even booting up.

Got myself a key board and screen...

Looks like it's booting up. There's a bunch of text that scrolls by then it stops at "Welcome to Linux 3.4.11-Unraid (tty1)

NAS login:"

Is that normal?

I managed to do a syslog. Here it is.

syslog.txt

I'm assuming that you cannot telnet into the server, or ping it or anything at all ie: network issue

try typing in ethtool eth0 and ifconfig and posting the output.

I'm far from an expert, but I don't see anything obvious in your syslog beyond that the array is set to not autostart (but that won't affect being able to access the server)

Also, what kind of setup are you running?  I see that you've got 4 hard drives, a SSD (and a DVD burner for some reason), but unRaid free only supports a maximum of 3 drives.

Is the issue just that the array itself won't start up?  Is there a copy of your KEY file in /config?  Becuase emhttp is only stating that its finding the Basic key

Is there a way to capture the output from the ifconfig and ethtool eth0 like with the syslog? I can run both commands but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I do have 4 drives but only using 3 for now (I bought too much capacity). My plan was to move up from the free version once I needed the 4th drive. Everything has been running smoothly for a few years and my only interfacing I had been doing was through unmenu on my laptop. Once in a while I would restart the array after a power outage.

I can no longer call up unmenu in my laptop browser. I'm not sure what happened.

Thanks for your replies. It is very appreciated.

You could do something like:

ifconfig > /boot/textfile.txt 2 >&1

to save it onto your flashdrive

You don't have an IP address...  Could be your port, or switch, or possibly the cable.  Try a different port on the switch.  After that I would try an add on ethernet card.

Looks like it was the port. I changed to the second one and I'm back in business. Not sure what happened to the first one but I guess I'm good to go until the second one fails.  Thanks for all your help Squid!

Now that this is done, maybe I'll try upgrading to the latest version. :)

Didn't realize you had two ports on the motherboard.

Probably nothing wrong with the first.  My guess is that right before your problems started you played around with the network cables and plugged it back into the wrong port.  The port you had it in is eth1.  unRaid under normal circumstances only uses eth0
