[SOLVED]Noob needs help. ifconfig eth0 command

Featured Replies

I just bought a Lenovo Thinkserver TS140 and one WD Red 3TB drive(plan to add more later) to store all of my movies so I can stream them to my Chromebox with Kodi. I'm having a hard time getting it installed and could use some help. All of this stuff is pretty foreign for me so please bear with me as I am a total noob. I have the USB portion all taken care of and don't seem to have any issues up to that point. Where I am having problems is when I go to put in this command ifconfig eth0 it comes back showing no inet addr:, it doesn't even say inet addr anywhere. If I just use the command ifconfig then it comes back with the inet addr of 127.0.0.1.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks,

Scott

Try a different ethernet cable or router port.

Yeah, so I'm an idiot. It helps to have the other end of the Ethernet cable plugged into the router. LOL

Thank you!

Another question. I have everything up and running but as I was formatting the drive I went to switch my IP address to a static one and it kind of locked up for a bit and starting working again. There was small writing on the middle left of the screen but I can't remember what it said.  I'm not sure if it finished formatting the drive. How can I make sure?

Maybe a screenshot would help make sense of what you are experiencing.

I think I got it figured out, thanks for your help.
