Is the setup procedure the same as the Win7, either Create VM or paste XML? It was my answer a while ago. I found myself using a xbmc plugin in windows media center. Once I found out xbmc could play tv from a mythtv backend that was it. Were you planning on using mythtv or xbmc as a frontend in mythbuntu and passing through the video card? I currently just use mythbuntu as a backend. And use a zbox and raspberry pi's as the frontends with openelec on them. I have used Create VM several times to install mythbuntu. Just download the latest cd image and select other for operating system, I used 2G for ram, 2 vcpus and a 10G image. I also pass through a separate 750GB 7200 rpm 2.5" hard drive for live tv buffer and recordings. I have 2 hd homerun prime cable card tuners for tv.
January 22, 201511 yr Author I don't know. I've set up a mythbuntu vm. I haven't messed with any pass through yet, but both Win7 and mythbuntu seen to really lag in performance. I try a video in VLC player (Homerun in mythbuntu) and it's like slow motion, and seems like cursor control is minutes behind. I just force shutdown. I haven't done much more than create the vm. What am I missing or are ya'll just putting up with it?

I just use mythbuntu to stream tv to openelec boxes using the xbmc mythtv plugin.
January 22, 201511 yr Author dmacias, Did you convert Mythbuntu iso to bootable when you put it on unraid? My started the first time, now when I try it says the HD is not a bootable device.

No I just downloaded the latest cdrom. If you destroyed the vm during install then you'll have to edit the xml and change boot device to cdrom. The Create VM loads a different xml the first time the vm is run with cdrom as boot. You could just recreate it also.
January 23, 201511 yr Author I put the iso under my images folders, but never installed it. Again, I'm in the learning curve, I see you used a 2.5" hd for your mythbuntu. Did you install the iso to the HD? I'm thinking about using a 500G hd outside the array and install mythbuntu to it other than trying to run it from the iso. I think I'm on the right track, this is what I'm thinking you did? ~ Dave

You could create the vm then destroy it then change boot back to cdrom and substitute your hard drive using disk by id. That would save you some trouble mounting the drive later. I created a vm with 10G qcow2. I just added the drive to the vm then copied the contents of /var/lib/mythtv. Which is were the storage folders are located. Then mounted the drive to that location. The reason I did it this way was so I could just back up a 10G vm versus a whole hard drive. And if I need to replace/upgrade the storage drive I can without disturbing the vm. I just recently easily upgrade from a 500GB to 750GB drive. The last one had a lot of reallocated sectors. I used a 2.5" for power consumption and 7200 for speed. Also my case has a 4 bay 2.5" cage. Which I also use for cache ssd and vm ssd. But any questions are welcome no matter how small?
