May 2, 200917 yr Is there an easy way to reformat all the drives in my unRAID box and clean the config off it? I've been testing it for a couple weeks and now I'm ready to put it back in production but I need to clear all this junk off it.
May 2, 200917 yr If you think about it, you would not want there to be an easy way to accomplish this task. That would mean that someone would do it by accident! Just delete the files you don't want and begin using your array.
May 2, 200917 yr If you have to have them totally cleaned, use the Preclear Disk procedure on all of them. Just un-assign them all first.
May 2, 200917 yr Author I forgot about pre-clear. I guess I could use that with -n to skip the sector checking part (since it's already done) - I'd want to make sure I didn't have to do a full check on all of them, as there are 8 drives and that would literally take forever, forever being defined as more time than I have to give. As for not having an option for it in case someone did it by accident.....well, I don't agree. Make it a hidden option, make it something that has to be done from the command line, ask for confirmation - but not having an option at all is just a missing feature in my book. Every commercial NAS system, such as ReadyNAS, has an option to clean/clear an array. Simply deleting files is not good practice.

If you run the clear script, even if only for a minute or so on each disk, it will unformat them. The "restore" button will reinitialize the array and forget everything it knew about the prior array configuration. As for a magic - reformat all of my drives button - I can't agree that's a good idea.
