June 19, 200917 yr i just tried to stop my array and the buttons grayed out like normal for a secont and then they came back and the array was not stopped. and now all but one of my disks says "unformatted" what am i supposed to do now? press stop once more. Are you running any add-on scripts or programs...? Or were you logged on and "cd'd" to a disk directory? Either will keep a disk from being un-mounted. All those that can be un-mounted will incorrectly slow as un-formatted... Just don't press the format button... Stop your add-on script, or log off, and press "Stop" once more. Joe L.
June 19, 200917 yr Author everytime i hit stop it just does the same thing and never actually stops the array. i dotn have anyadd on scripts running - i'm not even sure what an add on script is really. i have not hit format, but i cant really seem to actually do anything until i can get the array to stop. and hitting stop doesn't do anything. it just thinks for a second and then comes back up without stopping the array.
June 20, 200917 yr anyone?? i'm really stuck here and cant get at any of my data... The powerdown script is a very useful addon. You can set it up to execute when [ctrl][alt][del] is pressed. It will do a clean shutdown of the array even if there are open files or other things that would prevent an array stop from the Web GUI. From where you are, you might just need to power down the server, and then reboot. It will likely start the array and begin a parity check. Not the end of the world. You should probably use the "poweroff" command to shutdown the server. Not as good as a clean shutdown, but better than BRS.
June 20, 200917 yr It's OK... Since you have no add-on scripts or programs running, then we can use the "fuser" command to kill anything keeping the disk busy, and not allowing the disk to un-mount. The one DATA disk that is not shown as un-formatted is the one "busy" and preventing the server from being shut-down. For this example, I'm going to pretend it is disk3 that is not showing as un-formatted. Log in, either on the system console, or via telnet as "root" Press enter if prompted for a password. Then type: fuser -km /mnt/disk3 Remember, substitute the name of your disk that is NOT showing as un-formatted. Then try pressing "Stop" once more. The array should then stop. The fuser command will kill any processes keeping the disk busy, and keeping it from being un-mounted. Joe L.
