Another noob question, pls. bear with me

Learned about unraid in a local forum couple of days ago and have decided to try the free version if it fit my needs. I know absolutely nothing about linux and only basic understanding of the Windows world so please bear with me.

I have everything setup, server running with just 1T drive for now. I can access the web management utility from one of my pc but have no clue as to how I can access/share it with the other pc's in the house in order to transfer my files and read from it. Have consulted the manual but haven't found a solution. Also, is the free version only for one user (as there is no option in the users tab to add more users )? Any help is much appreciated.

From a windows PC, any on your LAN, you can use windows explorer to access the shared drives.

Assuming you did not rename the server, it will be known as "\\tower" on your LAN

So, from file-explorer, you can type

\\tower

ans see the shared folders.

Or, you should be able to browse the "network neighborhood" on your PC, then click on the server, and then the shared folders in it.

If you make the "disk" shares exported read/write and visible (not hidden) you will see each disk as

\\tower\disk1

\\tower\disk2

Each top level folder on the disks will become a "user-share"  If you have  top level folders on disk1 and disk2 named "Movies", they will be visible as

\\tower\Movies

with their combined contents.  The files are only stored once, but the "user-shares" gives a consolidated view of like named folder contents.

The wiki has a comparison of features in the various versions.  The free version does not include "User LEvel Security"

I'd spend some tim reading through the wiki... It has a LOT of information for noobies (and experienced) users.

Thanks a lot. Haven't bought a license yet but customer support is already kicking in ;)

Are you trying to get to the server from a Windows Machine or a Macintosh Machine?

on a Mac \\tower will not quite work; although the tower should pop up in the sidebar in Finder.  If that does not work you can hit command+K which will bring up the Connect to Server dialog box.  In there you can type smb://ipaddressofserver/disk1 and it should get you to the disk that is in the Server.

As Joe pointed out there are a lot of good things in the wiki so please take a Unoffical Documentation to get you started.
