June 30, 200917 yr I am aware that unRAID allows both IDE and SATA drives. Does the pre-built system (MD-1510 series) accept both IDE and/or SATA drives? Thanks much
July 1, 200917 yr No it only accepts SATA drives (those bays cannot take IDE drives) and the supplied motherboard does not appear to have any IDE interface either should you 'find' somewhere to put the drive outside of the bays.
July 1, 200917 yr Thanks, Bummer! I have lots of IDE drives lying around..... you can always build your own system based around some of the same parts as the MD-1510. If you have a lot of IDE drives you are going to have to buy an IDE controller card anyway to get access to more then 2 drives anyway.

You can either buy an IDE controller card, or, if you do not have a free slot, you can use something like these IDE to SATA converters http://www.satasite.com/sata-ide-converter.htm Disclaimer... I just did a random search on google to find the line posted here... I have several equivalent converters I purchased for about $15. each when I found them on sale. Mine look like the picture here in the amazon.com page: http://www.amazon.com/IDE-SATA-Converter-Converts-Interface/dp/B000GPMJ7Q and fit fairly flush against the rear of an IDE drive. Unfortunately, even these slim versions can't fit in most drive trays with the drive without re-engineering the drive tray. They will work though, so keep them in mind, even if you need to swap out the drive tray itself. You can get the converters for either way... IDE-to-SATA, or SATA-to-IDE. Joe L.
