MBOARD WARNING: S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and Replace!

As I transfer more and more data to unraid, I have the same problem I had at the beginning.

Half way through a large transfer (say 30 GB) the unraid server crashes. With this I mean that connection is lost, the unraid screen is blank and keyboard does not bring the screen back.

I have to press the power button off, and then on to restart the server.

Two weeks ago, when I restarted it, it gave me the following error message

 

"Sec Slave Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and Replace

Press F4 to Resume"

 

I pressed F4, it resumed and I had no issues with the drive, Unraid records the temperature fine.

Overnight it crashed again, same story, whilst transferring (I know it is whilst transferring, because I use Xcopy, and I can see the message "file creation error - the network path was not found".

 

This time upon hard rebooting I get the message

 

"Sec Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and Replace

Sec Slave Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and Replace

Press F4 to Resume"

 

Needless to say, I am worried...

When unraid starts it does not detect anything wrong with the drives, but starts a parity check.

 

Mboard I use is the Intel Desktop microATX Motherboard D915GAGLK

Hard disks are all Sata Seagate 500GB, I have 4 in my setup right now. My fifth one failed and is with Seagate, awaiting replacement.

No issues so far with Unraid, rebooted with no error messages on boot this time. It seems I only get problems when unraid crashes and I have to do a hard reboot.

I will soon install another drive in the server, and monitor transfers using telnet next time looking for errors.
